CAMDEN Council's first community composting scheme has been launched in Hampstead.
Residents of Heathview Tenants Co-operative will be able to compost garden and kitchen waste in large shared bins, which they can then use in their gardens.
If successful, the council will introduce similar schemes elsewhere in the borough.
Environment councillor Chris Knight said: "Composting is a simple, ecological and economical solution to the problem of kitchen waste.
"It's fantastic to see communities getting involved in this valuable scheme."
The council already offers compost bins at discounted rates.
