A CON artist is preying on elderly residents in Highgate by taking advantage of their kindness.

Police have warned residents not to open their doors to strangers after receiving reports of a woman carrying out a lucrative scam.

The suspect, who is a middle aged black woman, has been knocking on doors pretending she needs money to get a taxi to hospital.

Several elderly women, who were alone at home, have fallen victim and given her £10 only to see her picked up by an accomplice and driven off.

PC Mick Hill from Highgate Safer Neighbour-hoods Team warned: "If you are not expecting someone then make sure you look through the window or speak through the letter box.

"Ask them to come back later when there is someone else home."

Anyone with information about the woman should call police on 020-8733 6061.
