Plans for a seven-storey tower on the site of a former magistrates’ court would have a “detrimental” effect on a stretch of woodland in Highgate, according to the City of London.

The local authority has taken a rare stance against proposals to redevelop the derelict court building and police station in Bishops Road by lodging an official objection to the scheme with Haringey Council.

Its lawyers warn the plans would be “overbearing” and would visually impact nearby Highgate Wood.
