Residents are being reminded to have their say on the Church Street regeneration project before consultation closes.

The Church Street masterplan consultation closes on October 29 and Westminster City Council are inviting residents to pass their comments on an open forum.

The plan is set to to create a framework of development which could last 15-20 years.

The council want feedback on a number of topics including new homes, including more affordable homes for local people, improved access and public realm such as pedestrinisation of roads and a 20mph speed limit, a new health and well-being hub, green spaces and, and improved retail, market and business space.

People can also visit the regeneration office at 99 Church Street.

Some residents have complained that the council haven’t publicised the consultation widely enough.

Imelda Finnerty said: “The reality is people are not aware of this consultation. Nothing has been pushed and therefore the answers and opinions the council have got are not going to be realistic. I think there should be a pause in the deadline.”

Labour MP for Westminster North, Karen Buck, says that “she has been told by lots of people” that the masterplan consultation hadn’t been publicised enough, when asked by the Ham&High.

Westminster councillor Rachael Robathan, cabinet member for housing, said: “We have carried out a thorough consultation over seven weeks which has involved an exhibition, events for local businesses and market traders, and pop-up sessions in the community.

“The regeneration office, located in the middle of Church Street, has been open throughout the consultation and has a permanent display. All residents in the area received a newsletter advertising the consultation in advance and those directly affected by the proposals received a letter encouraging them to learn more about the master plan.”

She added the regeneration team will be “conducting a final leaflet drop and will be door-knocking more households as consultation ends.”
