Children as young as seven recited Shakespeare on stage after attending a week of drama workshops in Highgate.

In front of a captivated audience in the garden of the Holly Lodge estate, youngsters performed iconic scenes from four of the playwright’s best-known plays: Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tempest. They invited parents to choose which performance was their favourite after reciting famous lines from each play. It is the 11th year the Holly Lodge Summer Shakespeare Workshops have been held for children aged between seven and 14 at the end of the summer holidays.

Actress and workshop organiser Lisa Rose said: “I was amazed at how they learnt their lines. We get these kids in for a whole week and then they are able to recite huge chunks of Shakespeare.”
