Pupils at a Chalk Farm school did their bit to brighten up Christmas for the less fortunate this year as they sent hampers to homeless and elderly people in the area.
Students from Haverstock School in Haverstock Hill played the role of Father Christmas as they donated hampers full of goodies to the Salvation Army and residents living in sheltered housing in Denton Tower, Malden Crescent, Chalk Farm.
Ashkan Shahzady, 14, who lives in Adelaide Road, Swiss Cottage, said: “At Christmas time we know how the elderly feel and how lonely they can get, so we’re just trying to cheer them up for the New Year.”
Abubakr Siddiqui, 12, who lives in Weedington Road, Kentish Town, said: “I saw the appeal for the Salvation Army on TV. Whatever we can do to send warmth and kindness, we’ll do.”
The students, aged 11 to 18, put together 56 hampers in total.
