Cash machine seized in newsagent burglary

A HORNSEY newsagent was burgled in the early hours, causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage.
J D Jakes in Weston Park was broken in to at approximately 4.30am on Monday (January 26).
Police arrived within eight minutes of being called, to find the shutters had been forced and glass smashed.
An ATM cash machine had been taken from inside the shop.
Jagdish Patel, who has owned the shop for 25 years, said: "I wasn't here at the time.
"Whoever was involved managed to lift the shutters and broke through the glass.
"The cash machine was ripped from the floor and shelving was damaged.
"The alarm had been set off and when I came to open the shop at about 5.15am the police were there waiting for me.
"Replacing the glass for the door cost me £300 and the damage inside will probably cost me another £500.
"We haven't had a break in since the first week we opened in 1984 - that's when we put the shutters in.
"I'm very upset about it all and really worried."
The burglary is the most recent in a spate of robberies in the area.
In December, two men - one with a knife and the other with a gun - threatened staff at a massage parlour in Crouch End Hill, and made off with a quantity of cash, mobile phones and an iPod.
In November, armed thieves held two men hostage at gunpoint as they robbed WHSmith in Muswell Hill
And in October, two masked robbers threatened staff at the Natwest bank in Crouch Hill making off with a quantity of money.
