The owner of a newly opened Highgate restaurant has told of his frustration after a car crashed into the eatery last week.
A Toyota Hybrid smashed into the front window of steak restaurant Popes Eye in Highgate Hill on Saturday, shattering the glass.
Owner James Hutchison said: “Its not serious but it’s annoying. I wasn’t in the restaurant but I found out about it on Saturday morning.”
Mr Hutchison, who opened the restaurant in April, found out about the crash through social media.
He said: “People were tweeting me about the crash. They were saying ‘Poor Popes Eye!’”
Mr Hutchison believes this is the third crash in Highgate Hill this year.
He said: “There was another crash on another bollard but the landlord said that it was an insurance job.
“This is a consequence of a raised road and a flat kerb. There is a safety concern.”
Mr Hutchison said the crash could impact on business.
The Scottish owner said: “No one can sit in the front of the restaurant for now. I have a back section but it is going to be a wee bit cold.
“Some people might like the edginess of a window that might fall on them at any moment, but it’s not for everybody.”
