Plans to knock down a historic pub were given the go ahead last week despite former Strictly Come Dancing star Arlene Phillips backing a campaign to save it.
Permission was granted to turn The Adelaide pub in Primrose Hill into five houses with a basement car park by Camden Council on Thursday May 23.
Alana Phillips, daughter of former Strictly judge Arlene, lives next to the pub in Elsworthy Rise and fought the plans alongside her mother and local residents,.
The Adelaide has not been a working pub for a few years but those opposed to the plans wanted a less “intrusive” development.
Howard Goldsobel, chairman of Elliott Square Residents’ Association, said: “We would not have objected to development, it was just that particular form of development. Lots of pubs get turned into flats in a very nice way.
“Had the development been without underground parking, we probably would not have objected. It will block the view right out over London for those on the east side of the square.”
The Adelaide is the second pub due to be developed in Primrose Hill in the space of two weeks.
Comedian Harry Enfield was recently granted permission to turn the Queens No1 pub in Edis Street into a five-bedroom home.
