A bar in Camden has paid tribute to a man well-known in the borough’s music scene who died while trying to save his brother from an oncoming train.

Nick Mann, 35, was killed in the early hours of Sunday morning after alledgedly jumping on to the Northern line at Old Street station to rescue brother Robert after he fell on to the tracks.

Robert Mann, 32, is currently in critical condition.

British Transport Police said they are not treating the incident as suspicious, adding that it appeared to be a “tragic accident”.

Nick Mann was well-known among the hardcore music scene in Camden.

Our Black Heart bar in Greenland Place, Camden Town, posted on its Facebook page: “The hardcore scene upstairs just took its biggest supporter back. RIP Nick Mann. The London music scene thanks you.”

After being contacted by the Ham&High, Josh Retallick, of Our Black Heart, said: “I’d known Nick for eight years. He would come to a lot of shows and was a massive supporter in the hardcore music scene. I only saw him last Thursday – he would always have a smile on his face and was still someone who had so much passion for the scene.

“The way he died was so shocking. People have described him as a ‘hero’ and that doesn’t surprise me. He was so community-minded.”

A BTP spokesman said: “Our officers were called to Old Street station at 12.22am on Sunday following reports of a person being struck by a train.

“On arrival officers discovered two men on the tracks with serious injuries. The men - one aged 32 from Manchester and the other aged 35 from London - were treated at the scene by colleagues from the London Ambulance Service and then taken to hospital in a critical condition.

“The 35-year-old man from London died in hospital later that day. The 32-year-old from Manchester remains in a stable but critical condition.

“Officers are not treating the incident, which appears to be a tragic accident, as suspicious.”

A Transport for London spokesman said: “At 00:21 hours on Sunday two men were involved in a collision with a train on the southbound track at Old Street station.

“Police colleagues described the incident as non-suspicious, and we are working with them on a thorough investigation.”
