Camden Town Hall went into lock down as Justin Bieber fans at a top secret book signing stormed the building in search of the star last night (Wednesday, September 12).

Groups of hysterical teenage fans ran into the town hall in Judd Street, King’s Cross, hoping to catch a glimpse of the global superstar, who was in the Camden Centre next door last night.

The fans mistakenly thought they could get to Bieber through the town hall and security guards were left chasing the teenage girls around the building as surprised council staff watched the commotion.

The town hall shutters were eventually pulled down to keep the fans, who are known as Beliebers, out.

Outside hordes of weeping fans caught up in “Bieber fever” left the book signing in tears and girls could be seen huddled in clusters around the block.

The queue for the event, jointly organised with WH Smith, stretched around the building and the star signed copies of his new book Justin Bieber: Just Get Started from 6pm to 9pm.

A lucky 650 fans bought sought-after wristbands for the event, sold through fan clubs for 15 to 30, but they were reportedly changing hands on eBay for between 500 and 1,000.

Some parents were understood to be devastated when fans only got to spend 10 seconds with the Canadian star and were banned from taking photographs, although one mum did get a video of the star, as seen on this page.

Some had travelled long distances to see their idol, including fans from Blackburn, Brighton and Essex.

Hannah Marling, 19, from Essex, said: “Did you know that they did a scientific test and they’ve called this Bieber fever, it’s a problem. We’ve totally got it!

“I think we’ll be in tears. Last time we got a picture with him.

“This time we wanted to be at the back of the queue, because we’ve been at the front before and it’s over and done with so quickly.”

A rare teenage boy in the queue, who gave his name only as Ryan from Blackburn, added: “I do admire him. I like his music, his fashion, and his personality is really cool.”

One council worker had a surprise sighting of the 18-year-old pop star as he went to collect his bike from the downstairs car park in the town hall extension building.

He was stopped by security as he wheeled his bike up the ramp and Bieber fleetingly walked past after arriving with his entourage at 5.30pm.

Camden Council own and operate the Camden Centre but were unable to release any advance information about the top secret event.

Fans had been told the book signing would be held in central London, but had no idea of location until news leaked on Twitter the night before.

Attracting a global megastar of Bieber’s stature to a council-operated building is likely to be seen as something of a coup for Camden.

A council spokeswoman said: “The Camden Centre were privileged to host such a worldwide star and we hope he enjoyed his visit to Camden.

“We are pleased that despite the hundreds of fans that attended the event was a massive success.”
