Campaigners against the controversial 100 Avenue Road development have reacted with dismay to news it will go back to a council vote in just two weeks.

Janine Sachs, chair of Save Swiss Cottage, said bringing the deferred construction management plan back before the planning committee on August 16 meant it wouldn’t receive enough scrutiny – because some councillors, staff and neighbours will be on holiday.

Instead, she wants it heard on September 20, by which time the High Court will have decided the fate of the similarly controversial CS11 scheme, set for a judicial review hearing on September 6.

“It looks as though the whole thing is being brushed under the carpet to avoid proper scrutiny,” Ms Sachs told the Ham&High.

She added: “Considering the CS11 judicial review is being heard on September 6, there’s no sense there being a planning meeting prior to that.”

Camden Council did not address the request to hear the application in September instead of August, but said in a statement today: “Planning Committee considered the draft Construction Management Plan (CMP) for redevelopment of 100 Avenue Road on July 19.

“Members of the committee deferred a decision on the CMP requesting additional information about the possibility of all construction traffic using the A41. The CMP will be reported back to committee for further consideration as soon as the requested information is available.

“The council is aware that a judicial review hearing relating to CS11 has now been scheduled for September.”
