LABOUR councillors want an independent investigation into Camden Council's procedures over dead tenants' possessions.
Two weeks ago the Ham&High revealed that 60 staff were implicated in taking dead tenants' belongings from council houses, contrary to council policy.
Gospel Oak's Tory councillor Chris Philp called for heads to roll, but Tory deputy leader Andrew Marshall said: "An internal investigation has found no evidence of organised activity to unlawfully remove items from these properties for personal gain.
"However, disciplinary proceedings are ongoing, linked to the allegations. We are now working with a local charity to pilot a scheme where abandoned belongings are recycled."
This week, Labour spokesman Cllr Theo Blackwell tabled a motion calling for "an independent and external inquiry of this distressing issue, so lessons can be learned".
