Arsenal are on course for a potential FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea at Wembley after a routine fifth round win over the Clarets on Sunday.

Carlos Vela's audacious chip, Eduardo's outrageous volley and a late Emmanuel Eboue piledriver, set the Gunners up for a last eight home tie with Hull City on Tuesday night (March 17).

If the Tigers are beaten, Guus Hiddink's side - 2-0 winners at Coventry in their sixth round clash at the weekend - await Arsenal.

Theo Walcott made a welcome return as a second half substitute - and spurned two late opportunities to score - after four months out with a shoulder injury to cap a perfect afternoon for Arsene Wenger's side.

"We did the job in a serious way," said the manager.

"We kept good defensive tightness and we scored a goal. In the second half we scored brilliant goals. We could have had a few more but overall we did the job in a conscientious and serious way."

Vela lobbed Arsenal into a first half lead before Eduardo, who was made captain for the afternoon, netted his second goal since returning from his broken leg with a stunning first-time volley which sailed into the top corner off his heel.

Eboue added gloss when he finished another flowing move with aplomb with six minutes remaining.

Wenger reserved special praise for Eduardo's effort - and explained his reason for giving him the skipper's armband.

"It looked a little bit like a beach goal; with the outside of his left foot into the top corner. It is surprising that he sliced the ball as well. He is a surprising finisher and a very intelligent player," added the Frenchman.

"It (the captaincy) was a tribute to his personality and how well he has behaved during the nine months he was injured, He never complained and I think in our world that says a lot."
