Children marked the biggest moments of the last century in a play to celebrate their school’s 100th anniversary.

Pupils from Brookfield Primary School, in Chester Road, Highgate, whisked an audience made up of parents and teachers through historic events such as the First World War and England’s World Cup win in 1966 during the performances.

Children of all ages dressed as Second World War prime minister Winston Churchill, punks from the 70s, war time evacuees, and as First World War soldiers with the aid of false moustaches.

Pupils also performed songs that defined generations, including music by The Beatles and disco tunes, as part of the original “Hip Hip Hooray” play.

Headteacher Mark Stubbings could not resist joining in the celebrations and took to the stage with his pupils.

He said: “The show was amazing, drawing upon the skills and talents of children, staff, parents and carers. It was a fitting and impressive way to celebrate our centenary.”

The school continued centenary celebrations today with a fair where 100 ballons marked each year the school has been open.

Camden’s mayor Cllr Jonathan Simpson visited to mark the occasion.

Commemorative coins will also be issued to pupils, teachers and parents to mark the centenary.
