Botched shop burglary causes blaze in Crouch End

AN attempted burglary in Crouch End caused a fire which destroyed half a shop. The incident, at the Carphone Warehouse in the Broadway, occurred between 5am and 5.40am on Friday. Suspects attempted to cut through the metal door at the rear of the premises

AN attempted burglary in Crouch End caused a fire which destroyed half a shop.

The incident, at the Carphone Warehouse in the Broadway, occurred between 5am and 5.40am on Friday.

Suspects attempted to cut through the metal door at the rear of the premises but were unsuccessful and a fire broke out.

Four fire engines and 25 firefighters rushed to the blaze which took almost an hour to control. Half of the ground floor and 10 per cent of the first floor were damaged.
