A women-only group of Freemasons raised thousands of pounds for charity by hosting their annual “winter fayre” this week.

The Honourable Fraternity of Ancient Freemasons (HFAF), an organisation of women based in Finchley Road, Childs Hill, raised more than £2,000 at the fair, which drew about 100 visitors.

The money will help charities and organisations focused on cancer patients and palliative care, including the oncology unit at The Royal Free Hospital in Pond Street, Hampstead.

Orli Zucker, secretary of the New Blue Association, the fundraising arm of the HFAF, said: “It was quite early in the year to have the winter fayre but it went really well.

“It was very happy and jovial and it was about raising money and having a good time.

“I’m not sure what we’re giving to the Royal Free yet, but we only buy equipment, we never just give cash to charities.”

Actress and Bond girl Caroline Munro, who starred in The Spy Who Loved Me, was due to open the event – following in the footsteps of fellow Bond girl Valerie Leon, who did the honours last year – but she had to pull out to attend a funeral.

The HFAF, which has about 300 members in London and nearly 1,000 worldwide, will next host an “enthronement ceremony” at the end of January to install its new grand master.
