The No To Bike Parking Fees Campaign has called on a Westminster councillor to apologise for labelling them as sexist bullies.

Cllr Susie Burbridge sparked the response when she described warnings of future demonstrations as: "bully-boy tactics until you get your own way. A common symptom of the male species."

The NTBPF said today : "Cllr Burbridge has leapt onto the 'hate campaign' bandwagon so fast that she has now landed herself with a sexist jibe which has caused offence not only to those male riders who have been labelled in such a demeaning fashion as louts and bullies, but to female riders who object to this scheme. Were a male councillor to make a statement in the same way regarding women it is only right that he should be forced to apologise immediately".

Warren Djanogly, Chairman of the campaign, said "These allegations are being used to divert attention from the core issue of an unjust stealth tax. The campaign has not for one second condoned bullying or intimidation, and we have made this crystal clear from the outset."

The campaign has a demonstration planned for the 31st March, when a presentation will be made to WCC's scrutiny committee.

Under the current scheme it costs a minimum of 150 a year for motorcyclists to park in a motorcycle bay, more than a resident's car permit. Under the weekly rate this would be the equivalent of 260 a year and the daily rate up to 450 a year.
