TOWN Hall licensing bosses have blocked a bid to sell alcohol throughout the evening at Hampstead's Burgh House.
Trustees wanted to serve wine and beer until 11pm in the buttery of the historic New End Square venue, but last night (Wednesday) licensing chiefs insisted alcohol could not be sold beyond 6pm.
Trustees at the House say the time constraints which mimic the previous license will not affect the running of the Queen Ann home.
Tony Gilchik said: "This doesn't make much difference because they are still within the times the buttery operates. People thought we were going to turn in into a gastro pub, but that was never the intention. The buttery will carry on as before."
Several neighbours objected to late license proposals on the grounds it affect their peace and quiet.
"I am surprised how few of the people in the surrounding area actually objected but there are people who are still not happy with us," added Mr Gilchik, a Burgh House trustee.
"I don't think they will ever be happy as long as we are there.
