Schools across Barnet can now apply for 20mph speed limits on nearby roads.
Barnet Council’s cabinet approved the recommendations for primary and secondary schools on Wednesday last week.
The cabinet heard from Cllr Kate Salinger, chairman of a council taskforce convened to explore a borough-wide approach to 20mph speed limits, who recommended schools be allowed to apply for 20mph zones.
Under the new rules, residents will be able to raise objections to applications from schools, which will be considered by the council’s local environment committees.
The council also approved recommendations for residents and community groups to be allowed to apply for 20mph zones in their neighbourhoods.
