Barbecues are the only thing that won’t be sizzling in Camden parks this weekend, as the council has banned them after advice from the fire brigade.
This includes Waterlow Park, Fortune Green and other green spaces in the borough.
Islington and Hackney have also told people not to bring and light barbeques in the borough over the weekend.
London Fire Brigade has had to contend with a series of grass fires in recent weeks around the capital.
Barbecues are also banned on Hampstead Heath, and Golders Hill Park. The same applies to Primrose Hill, and Regents’ Park, which is managed by the Royal Parks.
The Royal Parks also has long-standing restrictions on how many people can meet for a picnic in its parks.
A spokesperson for Camden Council said: “It won’t have missed your notice that we’re experiencing exceptionally hot weather at the moment which means the grass in our parks is extremely dry. The LFB has seen a dramatic increase in grass fires and so given these exceptional circumstances we do ask you not to use barbecues in the park to make sure we’re all safe.”
