This week in....1996:
Ian Wright maintained he still wanted to leave Highbury despite a transfer request being turned down.
The striker had reportedly fallen out with manager Bruce Rioch and speaking after a 3-0 win at Wimbledon he said: "I played my usual game, it's the only way I know how. I always give everything, I never like to disappoint or short-change anyone.
"I thought my transfer request would be turned down but it doesn't really change anything. I'll concentrate on playing and see what happens at the end of the season. The fans were very supportive. Whatever the outcome, I'm sure they'll understand.''
