Paul Merson made his long awaited first team comeback when he played the final 16 minutes of the European Super Cup first leg against AC Milan at Highbury.
The striker had been out for 13 weeks after drink and gambling revelations but could do little to help his side break the deadlock against the Champions League holders.
After the 0-0 draw, the 26-year-old said: "I feel very good, better than I've ever felt. I've lost nearly a stone. My stamina is better."
His manager George Graham joked: "We didn't want to win 2-0 tonight as it would have been a bad game in the return in Milan.
