Arsene Wenger claimed Arsenal's 4-0 win over Porto on Tuesday night was their "most complete performance of the season".

The Gunners responded magnificently after Saturday's shock home defeat to Hull to destroy the 2004 Champions League winners with Robin van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor each scoring twice.

"It is what we expected. We did not concede a goal and we scored four," said Wenger.

"Maybe we could have scored a few more but it was most important to win the game and respond quickly in a convincing way and that is what we did.

"It was our most complete performance so far (this season)."

He was also impressed with Cesc Fabregas, whose influence was huge in the centre as Porto failed to get to grips with him all evening.

Wenger said: "I think he (Fabregas) was outstanding. He was good defensively and offensively and overall it was the 'complete performance'."

Before the game Wenger had threatened wholesale changes following the loss to Hull, but in the end he just made one; dropping Emmanuel Eboue to the bench in favour of Samir Nasri.

"I was tempted to make more than one change but I did not because I did not want to give the feeling that you punish one more than another," explained Wenger.

"I believe sometimes you give the team the chance to respond quickly. I made one change and it was because Nasri is a more natural left-sided wide-player than Eboue. The change was not to punish anybody I just believe we needed to respond quickly as a team."

Jesualdo Ferreira, the Porto coach, conceded his side were well beaten.

"We knew about the difficulties we would face. Arsenal are a great team. They play a short game with a lot of combinations and they do it everywhere, in the league or in the Champions League, against every opponent.

"The team tried to do the best they could - we had opportunities but did not score."

The Gunners top Group G with four points from two games and Wenger believes they will stay in that position now as they prepare for the trip to Turkish side Fenerbahce, whose run of eight consecutive home wins in European competition ended with a 0-0 draw against Dynamo Kiev in Istanbul.

"We know that we want to win our home games," added Wenger, whose side travel to play Fenerbahce on 21 October.

"We have taken a point in Kiev and we go to Fenerbahce to try to win the game like we always do. We expect to win the group.
