HOUSEPROUD Brits spend almost TWO YEARS of their lifetime cleaning their homes, a startling new study has revealed.

The survey by domestic cleaning giants Vileda reveals that the average Brit spends 658 days cleaning and tidying up around the typical UK home between the ages of 15 and 65.

That's a whopping 15,782 hours with dusters, mops and vacuum cleaners in our hands by the time we reach retirement age - an average of 6.07 hours every week!

And more surprisingly, the people behind the incredible push for domestic cleanliness are the country's teenagers, who have proven to be cleaner than their parents. Teenagers clean for 6.62 hours a week compared to the 5.93 hours dedicated to domestic chores by their parents every seven days.

Yet making our windows look sparkly is the UK's least favourite cleaning task, while wiping surfaces is the most satisfying, according to the Vileda research, conducted by OnePoll, which surveyed 3,000 people* across the UK about their cleaning habits.

There are, as always, exceptions to the rule. The survey also revealed that one in five Brits have gone an entire month without lifting a finger to clean around the home.

More than a third admitted to leaving dirty dishes for a week or longer

And it seems singletons would rather be out enjoying themselves as they spend the least hours cleaning every week.
