The Victorian house best known for being where Alan Bennett hosted a homeless woman for 15 years, a story made famous in the film ‘The Lady in the Van’, has been put up for sale.
Bennett lived at his three-bedroom house in Gloucester Crescent until a decade ago when he moved across Camden to Primrose Hill.
It was the scene of where Mary Shepherd, a homeless woman, pitched up outside of in 1974 in her van after moving it down the crescent to outside his house.
After her death in 1989, Bennett wrote what was eventually turned into the 2015 film, featuring Dame Maggie Smith playing Shepherd and Alex Jennings playing Bennett.
The film was shot on location at 39 Gloucester Crescent, where the events Bennett recalled for the film took place. He had kept the house despite his move to Primrose Hill.
The house is currently on sale for £3m with David Birkett estate agents.
