The Barones Burdett-Coutts, of Holly Lodge, Highgate, dies at her town residence in Piccadilly aged 93.

The master of Hampstead Workhouse reports to the Board that three inmates returned to the Workhouse after leave of absence for Christmas in a state of intoxication. It is decided to punish them by stopping their leave of absence and weekly supply of tobacco for a month.

In the south choir of St Michael's, Highgate, which is to be made into a chapel, a beautiful stained-glass window representing St Michael with armoured angels at the sides is placed by General Hill in memory of his mother who is buried in Highgate Cemetery.
