Unemployment in Camden shot up by almost 60 per cent in the past year - the largest percentage increase of all inner London boroughs. There are now 9,405 jobless people in the borough.

Tory-controlled Barnet Council was set to rush through an agreement to sell its interest in Brent Cross shopping centre for £17 million in the confidential part of a council meeting, but now that details have been leaked to the press, the deal will be discussed in public.

A pledge to defy the law by refusing to sell council houses is being considered for Haringey Labour's manifesto for the May elections.
