A bakery launched by a couple from their flat has moved from its original Crouch End location to a larger site in the neighbourhood.

Sourdough Sophia - which began during lockdown - has just relocated to Topsfield Parade, which has more seating and a garden for customers to enjoy.

It's the latest milestone in a north London success story that has seen husband and wife duo Sophia Handschuh and Jesse Sutton Jones open five locations, including Islington, Highgate, Hampstead, Primrose Hill, and Crouch End.

After six months running a kitchen table operation - with bread and pastries delivered by bike - they Crowdfunded £35,000 to open their first bricks and mortar bakery in Middle Lane, Crouch End.

It opened days before Christmas 2020 in a converted convenience store with a socially distanced queue all the way around the corner.

After selling out at 10am every day - despite buying more equipment and hiring more staff, they realised they had reached capacity and had to scale up to a second site.

The couple now live in Stroud Green and this year has already seen them open a production kitchen in Bermondsey and a new bakery and cafe in Primrose Hill.

The new Crouch End location - which takes over the site vacated by Humble Grape wine bar and restaurant - boasts the same pink branding, sofas and a larger kitchen.

They will serve the bakery's range of bread and pastries, including the passion fruit bow, strawberry cruffins, Babka Cruffin, Marmite swirl, and courgette danish.

The couple say the move from the original Crouch End location marks an exciting moment as they continue to expand across London.

To mark the occasion Sourdough Sophia is hosting a giveaway competition, distributing 10,000 door drops across Crouch End.

Residents are invited to enter the competition for a chance for everyone on their street to win a free loaf of Sourdough Sophia’s bread.

To enter, customers need to submit their details via an online form by July 28.
