A Hampstead boozer that was bought by a major pub chain is set to reopen this month following a five month refurb.
Last August, brothers Jonathan and Andy Perritt sold The Stag in Fleet Road to Young's after 17 years running the Victorian watering hole with "one big final Stag party to blow the fuse at the very end".
Young's, who run 280 pubs including The Flask in Hampstead, The Queens in Primrose Hill and The Bull and Gate in Kentish Town, have now invested in turning the former upstairs function room and flat into a whole floor dedicated to house parties.
They have also revamped the beer garden and restored original features such as the mounted stags on the walls, etched mirrors, and open fireplaces.
They say when The Stag reopens its doors on January 22, regulars will find the pub freshened up yet reassuringly familiar as a classic British boozer with a rotating line-up of craft beers on tap and a seasonally changing martini menu.
The new owners have installed a bar out in the beer garden and added outdoor screens for live sports fixtures such as the Six Nations rugby.
A new garden room with cobblestone floors, fireplace and retractable awnings will be a year-round space to book for birthdays and family celebrations.
Expect ales such as Pretty Decent Beer, Verdant, and Deya, alongside favourites such as Guinness, Asahi and Modelo, or order up the range of martinis from Dirty and Spicy through to a Tomatini.
The all-day menu promises a fresh spin on pub classics such as a tear-and-share ‘Stag Bag’ (a nod to the Irish spice bag), rotisserie chicken dishes, and the Stag chicken wings.
At lunchtime Heath walkers and staff from the Royal Free can pop in for a toastie, while on Sundays, the pub's roasts are back with all the trimmings.
‘Upstairs at The Stag’ is a private event space spread across three connected areas with kitchen area complete with vintage fridge and a butcher’s block for food and drinks packages, cosy ‘living room’ for catching up, and an outside space for mingling.
It has its own beer taps and you can play your own setlist or book a DJ for your party.
The Stag is at 67 Fleet Road, London NW3. www.thestagnw3.com
