Adult social care helps people at some of the most challenging and complex moments in their life, which is why it is so important we get this right.

Despite some challenging moments, we are clear eyed about what is needed to improve the quality of service we provide and are fully committed to making it happen.

We recently announced moves to introduce a new improvement plan that will transform the way we deliver care.

It sets out a practical set of actions that we will take - working alongside residents, families, carers and staff - to provide services in a way that best supports local people to live independent and fulfilling lives.

We know action is needed and this three-year plan is the next step in our journey to transforming services for our most vulnerable residents.

The pressures we face are not easy. We are tackling a budget shortfall, an ageing population and ever-growing demand for our key services.

The improvements required are in the context of the council’s significant financial challenges.

These have the potential to both impact the delivery of this improvement plan as well as being a driver for change.

As the council works hard to achieve its financial recovery there will be a need to ensure we're effective and efficient to deliver best value for residents.

A big part of our improvement journey is the co-producedcarers strategy.

Carers are the quiet champions of our borough - often unseen, always important.

On Carers Rights Day, I was proud to help launch this new chapter in our improvement journey, a real commitment to improving the lives of those who give so much of themselves to others.

This strategy isn’t just policy - it’s personal.

It’s shaped by the voices of thousands of carers who shared their experiences, frustrations, and hopes.

Their stories have guided us to focus on what truly matters: faster, fairer Carer’s Assessments, clearer access to information, and respite options that reflect the needs of the communities we serve.

We are also strengthening support for carers’ health, wellbeing, and employment as we know it’s imperative they hold on to the things that are important to them whilst caring for others.

Tackling health inequalities is central to this work, ensuring no carer is left behind.

What moves me most is the strategy’s emphasis on lived experience. Whether someone is juggling work and family, managing their own health, or caring within a community that’s often overlooked - this strategy is for them.

This is the Haringey Deal in action: co-designed, co-delivered, and deeply connected to our residents.

Together, we’re building a borough that sees, values, and stands with every carer. And we’re just getting started.
