Hampstead has got yet another coffee shop with the opening of a high end 'modern coffee' brand in South End Green.
Founded in 2014, WatchHouse already has outlets in Haverstock Hill and Belsize Park as well as locations in central and East London, Bath and New York.
Their latest cafe at 65 South End Road takes over the site of homeware shop Biggie Best, and is on the same parade as Redemption Roasteries, Polly's cafe, and Euphorium Bakery. The new cafe had a soft launch over the weekend.
According to their website, WatchHouse's roastery and HQ are in Maltby Street, Bermondsey, and their name comes from their original home in a former shelter for men guarding the graveyard of nearby St Mary Magdalen’s Church.
They say: "This tiny building became our namesake and the original home of the Modern Coffee ambition: to offer the community quality coffee, food and service, in carefully considered and beautifully designed spaces
"From humble beginnings in South London, we're building a local community far and wide. Approachable, considered, full of quality and provenance; thoughtful products and paraphernalia for your daily cup."
WatchHouse say of their 19 cafes, no two look the same, and offer a "Modern Coffee experience, while also preserving their unique history in the community."
The new Hampstead branch boasts large windows overlooking the Heath, exposed brick, neutral colours, wooden floors and a marble counter.
In addition to serving craft, seasonal and ethical coffee, the cafes offer fresh sandwiches, brunches and baked goods, while online customers can buy mugs, coffee machines, grinders, presses, filters, pods and coffee subscriptions.
