Islington diners will have the chance to eat like a Roman with the arrival of a new fresh pasta restaurant on Upper Street.

Al Dente brings the culinary art of the Eternal City to Angel next month -  offering hungry Londoners "a high-quality dining experience at an affordable price".

Founded by friends Filippo Giulio Gallenzi and Ivo Poklepovic, Al Dente - the House of Fresh Pasta first opened in Goodge Street in 2018 serving both takeaways and dine in.

The Angel restaurant will be the fourth branch to open in the capital, with outlets already in Fitzrovia, Kensington, and Monument, plus a ghost kitchen in Hackney offering a delivery service.

Like the other locations, the 70 square metre Islington restaurant will serve up dishes from different Italian regions with a focus on the authentic Roman pasta tradition.

Expect generous portions of Roman favourites like Carbonara, Amatriciana, and Cacio e Pepe, made from well sourced ingredients, and served up in a convivial atmosphere.

To celebrate the new opening, there's a special pasta dish la Gricia which is usually only available by delivery. Known as the less famous sister of carbonara and the mother of Amatriciana, it's made with guanciale, pecorino Romano, black pepper, and pasta water, and according to the Al Dente team "epitomises the essence of authentic Roman cuisine".

Al Dente is due to open in the first week of April and the dish will be on the menu in the opening month. The owners say the expansion is the next part of their journey while staying true to their commitment to quality.

The brand also sells 'at home kits' including fresh pasta made on-site every day to take away and cook at home, with a range of sauces and a how-to guide on taking your pasta to the next level.

Al Dente opens in early April at 4a Upper Street, Islington.
