A care worker who arrived in Britain just two years ago looking for a job has been named ‘Care Professional of the Year’ - beating 12,000 rivals for the title.

Former school-teacher Anthony Chinoso arrived in London in 2022 from Nigeria.

His aunt suggested a job as a care worker and he applied at Home Instead Camden’s Finchley Road centre in Child’s Hill.

Two years on and the 30-year-old has beaten professionals up and down the country who work for the company.

Home Instead’s chief executive Martin Jones and TV presenter Sarah-Jane Mee presented Anthony with the award for his “positive impact on people’s lives” at the company’s annual conference.

“It’s an honour to get recognition for my work,” he said. “The people I look after have had an impact on my life.”

Judges were impressed with Anthony's commitment in getting through to his clients, some living with dementia, by finding new conversation threads to share with them.
