Police arrested a man on suspicion of a racist attack after reports of a man brandishing a knife outside a shop.

The Metropolitan Police were called at 1.27pm today (January 29) to reports of a man with a knife in Hamilton Road, Golders Green.

Officers searched the area and a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, criminal damage and racially-aggravated affray shortly before 1.40pm, Scotland Yard said.

Videos have been circulating on social media site X. One appears to show a man with a knife outside a shop, the other appears to show a man being pulled to the ground by members of Shomrim, a Jewish neighbourhood watch group.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Police say a knife was recovered at the scene. The incident is not being treated as terror-related.

Inspector Scott Barden-Marshall, from the local policing team in north-west London, said: "I know this incident will cause concern in the community.

"Officers responded quickly and made an arrest within 10 minutes. An investigation is now under way."
