New exercise studios and an upgraded café could be added to a sports centre in Kentish Town.

Camden Council has submitted plans to build two new extensions at Talacre Community Sport Centre after receiving £7.7 million from the Government’s Levelling Up scheme.

The works are part of a wider programme part-funded by the grant, which also includes redeveloping a vacant building at 2 Prince of Wales Road into a community hub.

Plans for the sports centre include creating a barrier system to improve security, an upgraded café and a new gymnasium studio.

Other changes include a new park entrance to the centre from Talacre Town Green, and a new first floor exercise studio.

Camden Council hopes the new spaces will help increase centre visitor numbers by almost 2,000 each week.

To minimise disruption for existing users, the authority aims to keep the sports centre open while work takes place.

Camden consulted on the plans with residents at the end of last year, and comments on the planning portal (reference 2023/5441/P) can be made until February 3.

The council expects work on the extensions to the centre will start later this year, with the upgraded facilities to be launched in 2025.
