Bin collections in Camden, Barnet, Haringey, and Westminster will continue to operate on an altered timetable during the remainder of this year's holiday period.

Here’s what you need to know going into the New Year.

Camden

In Camden, recycling and rubbish collections from Monday December 25 to Friday December 29 have been moved two days later than usual.

That means those whose usual collection day is today, December 29, will have their collection this Sunday.

Anything due to be collected from January 1 to January 5, however, will just be collected one day later.

It’s also important to keep in mind, houses and flats located above shops may have specific collection days. Visit www.camden.gov.uk/check-collection-day for information.

Barnet

In Barnet, there are similar changes.

Collections occurring until Friday 5 January all have revised dates.

Any collections usually set for today (January 29) will be revised for Saturday December 30.

Anything due to be collected from January 1 to January 5 will be collected one day later.

Normal collection dates for blue recycling bins and black refuse bins will resume from the week commencing January 8, 2024.

It's also worth noting that the annual winter pause to the garden waste collection service is still in effect, and will remain in effect for the first three weeks of January.

Barnet Council also has some tips for recycling and waste reduction over the holiday period.

This includes that cardboard too large for your recycling bin can be flattened out and left next to the bin, but it should be smaller than one metre squared.

Also be mindful that Christmas cards with glitter or foil, as well as metallic and glittery wrapping paper and wrapping paper with sticky tape on it, are unrecyclable.

These should go into the refuse bin.

Haringey

The borough of Haringey has also scheduled changes.

Any collection normally occurring today, December 29, will instead be on New Year's Eve, and the usual collections from January 1 to January 5 will all be one day later.

The Western Road reuse and recycling centre is also closed on New Year's day.

Westminster

Lastly, collections for Westminster residents who usually have kerbside food waste, mixed recycling or rubbish collections on a Monday will also undergo some changes.

Collections will take place as usual on December 29 and 30 but no residential kerbside collections will take place on New Year's Day, so be sure not to leave refuse and waste out on that particular day.

Instead, a special collection will be organised for Wednesday, January 3, 2024 .

If you normally receive two or more rubbish collections a week, one on a Monday, one on another day, you will not have your Monday rubbish collection on New Year's Day but you will receive your other collections as normal.
