Ham & High readers have revealed the most 'unspoiled' pubs in the Hampstead area.

We asked readers on Facebook if there was a local where they "wouldn't change a thing", and we got lots of comments weighing in.

These included The Lord Stanley, The Magdala, The Garden Gate, The Spaniards Inn, The Pineapple, the Southampton Arms, and The Old White Bear.

One Ham & High reader praised The Lord Stanley, while another reader, Gavin DiGavi, cited The Magdala as having "excellent beer", however would prefer if there was an absence of Ruth Ellis memorabilia.

Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged, shot her abusive lover outside the pub in 1955, and its previous landlady had fake bullet holes drilled into the wall.

In November 2023, the Ham & High reported that a four-part ITV drama titled 'Ruth', starring Lucy Boynton, was set to tell her story, and the South Park Hill pub features in it.

Mr DiGavi also noted that the Garden Gate had "perhaps the best outdoor space of any pub" in the area.

The Spaniards Inn, in Spaniards Road, was perhaps the most favoured by Ham & High readers, getting several mentions on Facebook.

The Magdala, The Old White Bear, The Spaniards Inn, The Pineapple and the Southampton Arms all also feature in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2024.

One reader, Alina Tyara, said they would not change anything about The Old White Bear in New End Square, which reopened in 2021 following a seven-year closure - however, this community favourite might see some changes soon.

The Ham & High revealed that the pub intends to expand and utilise the upper floors, previously used as a classroom, as additional space for patrons.

This would see it regain its place as a community hub, restoring the highly popular function room.
