An Italian restaurant has announced that it has closed its doors for good.
Chains have been put up to secure the doors of Calici, located in the heart of Belsize Village, after its sudden closure.
The restaurant took over the Belsize Lane premises of the former Pan-Asian eatery XO in 2019.
Co-founder Andrea Casasola, who had worked overseeing TV chef Gino D’Campo’s restaurants, told the Ham&High prior to its opening that the aim was to “bring simple and delicious Italian food”.
Since shutting, the restaurant and its owners are yet to publicly share a message to customers regarding the reason, other than a brief notice on its website reading: “We are sorry, Calici is now closed”.
Robert Stephenson-Padron OBE, coordinator of the Belsize Village Business Association, said in response to the news: “Calici provided immense amount of joy from 2019 to 2023 after filling the old XO site which was vacant from 2017 to 2019.
“We are sad to see them go. What we have been told is the lease has been sold and will be reopening as a different restaurant.
“We encourage locals to get out and support the independent shops and venues of Belsize Village and landlords to be accommodative as our business community endures the difficult economic environment.
“From our end, the Belsize Village Business Association will continue to promote civic pride and environmental cleanliness to ensure Belsize Village is the best place to live and visit in London.”
Calici has been approached for comment.
