The Green party have held their seat at a council by-election.

Highgate voters went to the polls yesterday (November 30) to elect a new councillor after the Green Party's Siân Berry, who is also a London Assembly Member, stepped down on October 20.

She had represented the Camden Council ward, which the Greens have held a seat on since 2006, for nine years.

The former Green Party leader is hoping to replace Caroline Lucas MP and represent Brighton Pavilion.

Her successor has now been confirmed as Lorna Jane Russell, who received more than double the votes of her nearest rival.

The Labour Party's candidate - Patricia Leman - finished second, followed by the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats.

Following the 2022 local elections, Camden Council comprised 47 Labour Party councillors, four Liberal Democrat councillors, three Conservative Party councillors, and one for the Green Party.

There are now 46 Labour councillors, five Liberal Democrats, three Conservatives and one for the Green party.

The full results of the Highgate by-election are below:

  • Wakjira Fekadu Feyesa - Local Conservatives - 240
  • Patricia Leman - Labour Party - 740
