Wymondham College, a state boarding and day secondary school has achieved the rare and impressive double Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ gradings for its boarding and education provision.

The college’s recent joint inspection awarded outstanding gradings in all nine categories, an achievement very few schools in the country can claim.

The recently published Ofsted reports said: “At Wymondham College there is a palpable sense of aspiration… Consequently, pupils achieve exceptionally well."

It also described the school as "a vibrant, exciting place to live and study; a place where children absolutely flourish".

Mrs Zoe Fisher, principal of the college, said: “I am delighted that the inspection has recognised the wonderful children we nurture and all that they achieve as a result of the provision our staff community provide for our students.

“Being a state boarding school means that not only do our children learn with us, over 550 live with us, and I am thrilled that the incredible care and opportunities our staff provide alongside our high academic outcomes, has been reflected in the outcomes of the inspections.”

Wymondham College is the largest state boarding school in the country, steeped in a unique history that continues to be at the core of its values. Inspectors remarked that “boarders and day pupils alike live and breathe the school’s values of pride, passion and positivity".

They continued that boarding ensures “a culture of a home away from home. Given the size of the boarding provision, this is an impressive feat".

Situated on a spectacular 83-acre estate amidst the Norfolk countryside, the college is an idyllic place for any young person to live and learn in a safe yet expansive environment.

Ofsted noted that “children speak with total positivity about their experiences of boarding. They have an extremely strong sense of belonging and community".

Ofsted said: “There is a huge range of opportunities. Pupils enthuse about the quality of these. There are clubs for all.” This echoes the ethos that every child is known and cared for.

The college grounds provide extensive sports fields, floodlit all-weather pitches, tennis courts, an indoor swimming pool, specialist teaching spaces, five main school boarding houses and Lincoln Hall (winner of the South Norfolk award for Design Excellence).
