A police officer has been sacked after he was found guilty of assault outside a nightclub.

PC Deniz Ali, attached to a policing unit in Haringey and Enfield, was off-duty in Shoreditch when he assaulted a man in October 2022.

PC Ali approached two men who he believed were offering illegal cabs and taking videos of women outside a nightclub.

He produced his warrant card and showed it to one of the men, whom he shook forcefully.

As the man attempted to walk away, PC Ali grabbed his jacket and pulled him back, dragging him to the ground.

He was subsequently convicted of assault at Stratford Magistrates’ Court in July this year.

PC Ali was sentenced to a 12-month community service order and ordered to pay compensation of £150 to both victims, as well as court costs of £630.

He has now been sacked as a police officer following a misconduct hearing.

The officer was found to have breached the codes of conduct in relation to discreditable conduct earlier this week.

Detective Chief Superintendent Caroline Haines said: “Our officers should have no doubt as to what is expected of them and it clear the actions of PC Ali did not align with the high standards we set.

“The powers given to us as officers must be used fairly and correctly and when this does not happen, officers should expect to be held to account.”

PC Ali has now been placed on the barred list, meaning he cannot be employed in policing in the future.
