Highgate's boutique independent music venue The Red Hedgehog is holding a celebratory piano recital.

The venue opened in Archway Road in 2006 and puts on regular events with top class musicians.

On Saturday (October 7) Colin Stone gives a piano recital featuring music by Bach, Debussy, Liszt and Chopin, with cake served to mark The Red Hedgehog's 17th year.

There will also be a pre-concert talk by Paul Leverett who owns Piano Restorations, and who stepped in when the venue needed a new instrument.Ham & High: Colin Stone will give a recital on October 7.Colin Stone will give a recital on October 7. (Image: The Red Hedgehog)

He has loaned them a fully restored Bechstein B grand piano for concerts, and will discuss the process of gutting and rebuilding an old instrument, sourcing new wood, engineering a new frame, and stringing and toning it into an exceptional concert piano.

Audience members will have the chance to quiz him about anything they want to know, and the evening will also see the launch of a prize draw to win the Bechstein grand.

Tickets starting at £1 will go on sale, and once the fund target of £28,000 is reached one lucky person will win the piano, while other entrants will earn concert tickets. Paul Leverett will then loan another piano for the venue to use.

The Red Hedgehog has announced a programme of autumn recitals including concerts by Peter Seivewright on October 19, Alexander Boyd on November 4, and Dominic Degavino on November 16. Further details at theredhedgehog.co.uk 255-257 Archway Road.
