A community centre that helps train people with learning disabilities says it is “devastated” after “essential” items were stolen in a burglary.

The Mill Lane Garden Centre, in West Hampstead, reported the burglary to police on Tuesday (August 29), after finding power tools, till systems and IT equipment had been stolen.

The Metropolitan Police says it has estimated the centre was broken into between August 25 at 5pm and August 29 at 8.50am.

The centre describes itself as a “social enterprise” in the heart of West Hampstead, providing training for people with learning disabilities.

It said on X (formerly Twitter): “To say we’re devastated is an understatement. Not only were these tools essential to us providing quality products and a service, they also facilitated the training we provide to people with a learning disability.

“While we’re busy trying to locate and replace stolen items, we’d appreciate the help of the community during this unfortunate time.”

Police say there have been no arrests and enquiries continue.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference: 2328179/23.

The garden centre has also asked for anyone willing to help with funds replacing the stolen item to donate to a fundraiser at www.justgiving.com/campaign/makeovermilllane
