A train drivers strike is set to cause disruption in north London over the next few days.

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), which runs Southern, Thameslink and Great Northern routes, said there will be virtually no trains on its routes tomorrow (September 1) due to strike action.

The walkout by train drivers who are members of the ASLEF union will have a knock-on affect to services over the weekend.

It means that tomorrow there will be no train services on the company’s lines in north London, including from St Pancras towards Mill Hill, King’s Cross towards Alexandra Palace and Clapham Junction towards Wembley.

On Saturday (September 2) limited services will be running on some of these routes between 7am and 11pm.

Passengers have been warned to expect longer waiting times and busier trains until 9am on Sunday (September 3), and that queuing systems may be in place at stations.

Jenny Saunders, GTR’s customer service director, said: “We're really sorry for the inconvenience this industrial action is causing to our customers.”

She added: “Please plan all your journeys carefully in advance, and check again before you set off.

“We strongly advise you to make sure you know the times of your last trains – including any connections – to make sure you can get home before services finish.”

Mick Whelan, ASLEF’s general secretary told PA: “Train drivers at these companies have not had a pay rise for four years – since 2019 – while inflation has rocketed.”

Tube and Overground services

The strike action comes on a weekend when Tube and Overground closures will be taking place.

There is no service on the Circle and District lines between High Street Kensington and Edgware Road on Saturday and Sunday.

There is also no service on the Circle and Hammersmith and City lines from Hammersmith towards Tower Hill and Barking via King’s Cross.

The Metropolitan line will also be closed between Baker Street and Aldgate.

On Sunday there will be no Overground services between Hackney Downs and Chingford, or between Gospel Oak and Barking Riverside.

Services between Kilburn High Road and Euston, Camden Road and Stratford, and Liverpool Street and Enfield Town will also see changes to their typical operating hours.
