Warm summer weather is on its way and where better to cool off from walking on the Heath than in a fledgling ice-cream parlour.

Creamery, in Highgate West Hill, is the latest addition to the Bistro Laz and Al Parco Bar Pizzeria restaurants on the edge of Hampstead Heath.

Inside is a selection of creamy gelatos with flavours including strawberry milkshake, crunchy cookies and the silky smooth hazelnut and chocolate ambassador.

There are also a selection vegan sorbets, with the most popular being the lime and mint.

Staff member Dhruv Soni said the most popular flavour for customers is the Dulce Leche, literally meaning sweet milk, but which tastes of caramel.

It has not happened much this summer, but he says if the weather is too hot, people like an ice cream first thing in the morning.

As well as ices, people can buy waffles and crepes and there is also a selection of patisseries and pastries and shelves full of sweets and lollies.

The three sites, at the foot of Swain's Lane, in Parliament Hill, were bought by Gukhan Cavusoglu at the end of February from former owner Numan Devrim, who owns Laz and Goodfellas Pizza in Parkway, Camden.

Manager Ugur Cubukcuoglu said: "Nothing has changed. Numan had an idea to open an ice cream shop and Gukhan took it on. They were friends before; Numan couldn't carry on any more as he has two shops in Camden."

He said business is "not bad" and are expecting to be busy when temperatures are set to rise and stay sunny next week (from Tuesday August 15).

Bistro Laz, which serves Turkish food, and Al Parco, where people can eat in or take away thin crust pizza, are hugely popular with local people as well as visitors to the Heath.

"We're most busy Friday nights, Saturday and Sunday, it all depends on the weather," Ugur added.

Creamery is open Monday to Friday from 12pm to 10pm and Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 10pm.
