Images show flames ripping apart a multi-million derelict house that is popular with urban explorers.

Firefighters rushed to the property on The Bishops Avenue, commonly referred to as Billionaires’ Row, this morning (July 21).

The house was understood to be a building locals called The Towers, which has been left abandoned for years.

It was once owned by music hall actress Gracie Fields and at one point was purchased by the Saudi royal family for £25 million.

Since being left to decay, the house has become a hotspot for urban explorers who enter the property and tour the graffitied state – with many recording their exploits on YouTube and Tik Tok.

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called today to the three-storey derelict house at 12.42am.

Part of the ground floor and first floor were damaged, while the roof was destroyed by the blaze.

The fire was under control by 3.26am, with crews from Finchley, West Hampstead Hornsey and other surrounding stations in attendance.

It caused heavy smoke, which could be seen and smelt as far away as central London, with residents advised to keep their doors and windows closed this morning.

The Bishops Avenue was closed both ways this morning between Hampstead Lane in Highgate and Lyttelton Road in East Finchley.

This part of the road remains partially closed both ways.

During this time the H3 bus route is being diverted.

The cause of the fire has been recorded as undetermined, the brigade said.
