A pharmacy has increased security measures after known thieves "brazenly" walked in and stole products despite staff's attempts to stop them.

The pair walked into Boots, in Temple Fortune Parade, on July 4 and stole batteries.

Customer Maya Szaniecki witnessed them go in.

She said: "They entered brazenly and stole things despite the employees' attempts to stop them.

"The employees told me that this has happened every day recently and that they have already contacted the police, but nothing has been done.

"Perfumes have had to be removed from the store due to past burglaries, and now new items are being targeted, such as batteries."

The Oxford graduate and aspiring journalist, 22, added: "I felt bad for the employees as they really wanted someone to help with the situation.

"They were angry more than anything because it's happened a few times."

Boots confirmed the incident, saying that like many retailers it is experiencing increasing levels of crime.

It said it was "committed to continually improving security measures" for the protection of customers and staff and had increased security guard presence and other methods to deter theft.

The Temple Fortune store has CCTV, which is monitored 24 hours a day and there are also staff panic buttons for employees.

A spokesperson said: "We continue to work with the police on their ongoing investigation.”

The Metropolitan Police said it was unable to respond given the time that has passed since the thefts.
