Animals at London Zoo got into the royal spirit with Union Jack bunting for the Coronation weekend.

Charlie the Humboldt penguin - named after King Charles III - was among several residents at the Regent's Park Zoo to see their enclosures transformed in honour of the occasion.

Endangered Western Lowland gorillas, and Bolivian black-capped squirrel monkeys were also intrigued by the red white and blue flags.

The Zoo is part of international conservation charity ZSL, which has been supported by the Royal Family since 1826, when it was granted a Royal Charter by King George IV. Since then, every monarch, including the late Queen, has served as ZSL’s Royal Patron, supporting their important work conserving animals, protecting species, and restoring ecosystems across the world.

The future king became a supporter ever since joining the Exceptional Young Zoologist Club aged 13, and became ZSL’s Vice Patron in 2014.

Visitors to the Zoo over the Coronation weekend of May 6-8 can enjoy a programme of Royal-themed activities including discoving the Kings and Queens of the animal kingdom at lively animal talks, and learning about a host of ‘royal’ animals, including Bhanu the Asiatic lion ‘king’ in Land of the Lions.
