A woman is in “serious condition” after she fell from a height over a major road.

The A406 North Circular Road has been closed westbound today (March 21) after emergency services were rushed to what was originally reported as a “police incident”.

Metropolitan Police says a woman was said to be in a distressed condition on a bridge that goes over the A406.

While officers closed the road, a short while later the woman was seen to have fallen.

A spokesperson said: “The woman, who is believed to be in her 60s, has been taken to hospital in a serious condition.

“Her next of kin are aware.”

No arrests have been made since the fall and police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

There were long delays from Colney Hatch Lane in Friern Barnet to the A1, Henly’s Corner in Finchley.

The A406 North Circular reopened westbound at 12.25 this afternoon.

There are still delays on the A406 Westbound from Colney Hatch Lane (Friern Barnet) to A1000 High Road (East Finchley).

Congestion continues to Friern Barnet Road and Colney Hatch Lane from the closure earlier, there is also queueing both ways through Finchley Central.

There are residual queues at Henlys Corner now, but it is easing.
